This is a plug and play programmable engine management solution for all 2ZZ-GE powered Lotus platforms including Elise, Elise SC, Exige, Exige-S, Cup and 2-Eleven. Installation is simple and requires no wire cutting to the factory harness.

This is not a reflash ECU and should only be considered for serious enthusiasts. The unit is based on a proven AEM (Advanced Engine Management) standalone EMS with hardware specifically modified by Radium for the Lotus platform. Fortunately, the kit still retains the powerful and popular AEMTuner user interface software (shown below), so all tuning tools are familiar to AEM experts.

Although the stock Lotus ECU integrates into this EMS system via the supplied Radium main harness, the AEM EMS is not a “piggy-back” controller. The stock Lotus ECU is used only for simple functions such as A/C system, evaporative vent system, gauge cluster, fuel pump, starter relay, and electronic throttle. NOTE: Because this system completely takes control of all other EFI components, IT IS LEGAL ONLY FOR OFF-HIGHWAY RACING USE ONLY ON VEHICLES THAT MAY NEVER BE OPERATED ON PUBLIC ROADS.

The AEM EMS receives all engine related sensors such as CLT, IAT, KNK, CAS, CKS, TPS, ABS, O2, MAP, MAF, etc that can be data logged. All fuel injection parameters such as pulse width, injector phasing, ignition timing, coil dwell, etc. are solely driven and programmable by the AEM EMS. Furthermore, the variable valve lift (VVL) and variable valve timing (VVTi) are also programmable. Both of the Lotus "slow" and "fast" speed cooling fans and the factory air intake valve activation points are adjustable in the software. The AEM EMS has endless standalone features such as: switchable maps, knock control, individual fuel and ignition cylinder trims, rev limiters, exhaust gas temperature control, nitrous control, dog box flat shift retard/cut, etc.

The EMS mounts to a supplied laser cut aluminium bracket and includes all mounting hardware for easy installation.

All Lotus EMS kits feature the Radium jumper box which features a PCB using OEM Lotus connectors making the kit plug and play. If reverting back to the stock Lotus ECU becomes necessary, the jumper box makes the process quick and simple.

The real time tuning connection to the laptop is done through an included USB cable. The EMS kit also includes the AEMnet daisy chain connectors. This allows newer AEM products (4-channel wideband, water methanol injection, wideband failsafe gauge, aq-1 datalogger, etc.) to easily integrate and communicate information from one another via CAN bus for extra datalogging parameters. Wiring is as simple as plugging in a Deutsch 4P connector.

Perhaps the best feature of the AEM EMS is the data logging capabilites. The compact EMS unit (4.8" x 4.6" x 1.4") can store 8MB of internal data logging. This equates to 125Hz (samples per second) for more than 84 min at its fastest, but it can be turned down to record for over 183 hrs at 1Hz or anything in between. The AEM EMS also features unlimited PC logging directly to your computer. The data can be viewed in the traditional and very familiar AEMLog software or the newest (included) AEMdata software, shown below. AEMdata has powerful features including custom math channels, x/y plots and histograms, stage or circuit modes and more, all aimed at making sure the user gets the most out of the available data.

Aftermarket digital dashboards such as AiM Sport, Race-Technologies, Stack, Motec and Racepak can be integrated with ease. The following engine sensor data and outputs are sent to these dashboards via AEMnet CAN Bus: RPM, Engine Load, Throttle Position Sensor, Intake Air Temperature, Engine Coolant Temperature, GPIO 2, GPIO 4, GPIO 5, GPIO 6, GPIO 7, Battery Raw, Lambda Sensor, Vehicle Speed, Gear, Ignition Timing, Battery Voltage, etc. This means, for instance, Exige owners can now view the intercooler's air temperature sensor on the dashboard while driving to observe heat soak.

Base maps are included for naturally aspirated, supercharged and turbocharged applications. However, not all cars are the same. These tunes need to be verified by a certified AEM tuner before racing. The fuel tuning can be mapped traditionally in 3D, alpha-N, boost compensated, etc. All Radium base calibrations are tuned using 3D alpha-N with 2D boost compensation. Maps can also be password protected by the tuner to prevent unauthorized usage and sharing.

The EMS kit also includes two high quality OEM style center console mounted switches for miscellaneous purposes (shown below).

Programmable traction control is preconfigured to be used with one of the switches. NOTE: The OEM Lotus traction control was an option on 2006+ Lotus models. There is a momentary switch located near the gear selector, that when held down, would turn ON or OFF the OEM traction control. Not all models have this switch but all 2006+ models are prewired with a green 7-pin sub harness connector located underneath the center console. Traction control was not an option on the early 04-05 models. However, Radium includes and integrates the aforementioned 7-pin sub harness connector within the Radium main harness for the 2004-2005 EMS kits. When installing the basic EMS kit, the factory traction control switch (if equipped) will no longer function. Featured below, this switch is plug n' play and simple to install.

Models which came with the Lotus traction control will unplug the 7 pin subconnector and disregard their OEM T/C switch. The new Radium switch is identical to the Lotus switch except for a green LED and more importantly it is an ON/OFF switch rather than a momentary switch. Center console mount drilling is only required for models that did not come with a Lotus T/C switch.

If the vehicle came standard with the Lotus Variable Traction Control (VTC) found in some 2008+ models, the Radium traction control switch is NOT required. The factory steering column knob is already prewired and fully functional with this kit. The traction control sensitivity voltage range (31 positions) will display in the AEMTuner software or an aftermarket dashboard (not Lotus dashboard). If using the OEM VTC knob, the OEM T/C switch will be ignored. To turn T/C OFF, the knob should be rotated to the MAX position (counterclockwise). Either with the Radium switch or the OEM VTC knob, the amount of fuel and/or ignition cut as well as ignition retard is programmable in the AEMTuner software.

The other PnP switch option is the power selector. This can be programmed for anything imaginable. For example, if the vehicle is filled with race gas, ignition timing can be advanced and fuel can be trimmed back to run a leaner mixture with a simple push of this button. Furthermore, turbocharged applications can do the aforementioned along with adding a separate boost target for an additional power increase. These features are already preprogrammed into the Radium base maps.

The switch is the same as the Radium traction control switch but is distinguishable by a green actuator button (T/C button has black actuator). A simple center console hole is required to be drilled for this additional switch unless the car came with T/C and the Radium T/C is not used. Also included is a PnP "Y" connector for when both traction control and power selector switches are used.

Options
AUXILIARY HARNESS
The Lotus EMS kits come standard with a main harness. The optional auxiliary sub harness (shown below) connects to the main harness via 12-pin connector and allows simple plug-in connection for a host of optional add-on accessories. See below for details.

Prewired Fuse and Relay: The auxiliary harness comes with a prewired fuse and relay. It can be used as a spare output to drive any high current accessory such as a fuel pump, intercooler fan, nitrous solenoid, etc. or a low current accessory like a warning LED. The prewired fuse and relay comes pre-terminated with a SPAL fan connector. NOTE: The standard EFI bracket that comes in the base EMS kit already has a mounting location for this fuse and relay for securing.

Wideband Oxygen Sensor Lead: The auxiliary harness has 2 spare flying lead wires that can be used for a wideband O2 input. One wire is O2#1 signal and the other is sensor ground reference. Radium offers a few wideband O2 sensors (sold separately) described below that connect to these 2 points.

Speed Density Conversion Ready: The auxiliary harness comes prewired for a mass air flow to speed density conversion. An Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor and a Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor are both sold separately. See 'Speed Density Conversion' below for details.

Boost Control Ready: The auxiliary harness comes pre wired for the Radium 3-way boost control solenoid (sold separately). For further details, see ‘Boost Control Solenoid’ below.

WIDEBAND O2 SENSOR GAUGE
The basic EMS kit uses the factory narrow band O2 sensor for closed loop feedback at stoichiometric conditions such as warmed up idling and steady state cruising. However, Radium always recommends using a wideband O2 sensor for tuning high load where the air fuel ratio (AFR) will be outside the efficiency range of the narrow band sensor. Radium offers a high quality AEM wideband O2 sensor gauge kit (analog dial only) that outputs a 0-5V signal and connects to the auxiliary harness described above. The software can then be programmed to run closed loop O2 feedback full time, if required. This single product can be adjusted to any of the following color combinations shown below.

SPEED DENSITY CONVERSION
When the EMS kit is used with factory intercooled supercharged models, such as the Exige-S, Cup, and 2-Eleven, the factory TMAP sensor is utilized already converting the tune into an easily manageable speed density setup. All other Lotus models use the factory MAF for engine load in the base kit. High powered turbocharged engines should consider speed density as the restrictive Denso MAF sensor can get maxed out. This General Motors Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor and AEM 3.5 Bar Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor are vital in calculating speed density. NOTE: For a trouble-free plug n' play connection, the Radium Auxiliary Harness should also be purchased.

BOOST CONTROL SOLENOID
If the vehicle is turbocharged, Radium offers a high quality 3-way boost solenoid. This includes two aluminum barb fittings and a nickel plated filter. In the AEMTuner software, boost can be programmed to be dependent on vehicle speed, engine speed, gear position, throttle position, and/or a switch. Although more commonly used in drag race vehicles, this kit can also be set up for anti-lag spool up. The Auxiliary Harness should also be purchased to make this connection plug n' play.

Use this system with EXTREME caution! The EMS kit allows for total flexibility in engine tuning, however misuse of this product can lead to major engine/vehicle damage. If you are not well versed in engine dynamics and the tuning of management systems or are not PC literate, please do not attempt installation/tuning of this product.!
